Arctic in Rapid Transition
... is a pan-Arctic, international and interdisciplinary scientific network of early career scientists (ECS).
Our major goals are
a) to improve our understanding of the past, present and future responses of Arctic ecosystems to sea ice transitions and climate change by bridging science disciplines, geographic regions, and time scales, and
b) to create an active network of early career scientists from all disciplines.

What makes ART unique?
ART was conceived by early career scientists in October 2009 and endorsed by the Marine Working Group of the International Arctic Science Committee. It is founded upon four pillars:
- Involvement: ART was conceived, developed and remains steered by early-career scientists.
- International: measured both in its scope (Pan-arctic) and its scientific team, which consists of members from 14 countries.
- Interdisciplinary: by its nature, ART is interdisciplinary, consisting of oceanographers, physicists, chemists, biologists, and social scientists.
- Intertemporal: ART focuses on changes past, present, and future, combining paleorecords, observations, and modeling.
What does ART do?
In order to achieve the goals described above, ART:
- organizes interdisciplinary science workshops,
- organizes international expeditions,
- publishes in international journals,
- chairs sessions at international conferences,
- organizes funding/travel support for early career scientists.
How can I get involved?
Everybody who is interested in what we do can become part of the ART network.
